In the start of this series (8/29/24), Cogport showed the amount and depth of money entering politics.
Why the concern?
The amount of influential money guiding the policies in our government undermines the principles of Democracy. The division of the Political Parties has become so wide from catering to Special Interests that the legislative process has become dysfunctional.
This is not just a partisan issue. It is a systemic problem
Federal Spending designed to satisfy Big Donors and attract voters in certain categories with special benefits will ultimately lead to a fiscal Disaster for the U.S.
The National Debt is already unmanageable at over $ 30 Trillion.
It’s only a matter of time until a reckoning that will dramatically affect the economy and the lives of people in the U.S. Unless something changes.
Where does the money come from ? Here is a summary from the last Presidential election year:
Year 2020 Contributions
Super PAC’s Democrat $ 1.2 Billion (Includes $ 90 Million from Unions)
Republican $ .92 Billion (Includes $ 10 Million from Unions)
Corporate PAC’s Democrat $ .14 Billion
Republican $ .17 Billion
Individuals Democrat $ 2.1 Billion
Republican $ 1.9 Billion
Totals Democrat $ 3.44 Billion
Republican $ 2.99 Billion
For those who believe that Republicans are the Party of wealth, look at the Totals again -
$ 445 Million more went to Democrats in 2020.
Corporate PACS seem to be a small piece of the pie.
The next Report will zero-in on names of the most significant donors.
